About Competition

Formula SAE was organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the United States in 1981 to organize among universities with the aim of training qualified engineers in the industry. It is usually called “Formula Student” in countries outside the US. In Formula Student, students design, produce and test a vehicle in the open wheeled Formula concept.


All contests are based on the same basic rules except for a few minor changes. This contest is held in 14 countries (USA, Germany, England, Italy, Austria, Spain, Hungary, Czech Republic, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Brazil, The Formula SAE rulebook is approximately 190 pages. These rules do not restrict the concept of the car very much and are more about security and competition. Vehicles are examined carefully in competition and vehicles that do not comply with the rules book or are not safe can not participate in the stages of the competitor’s runway.
